Authenticity and Sustainability in Every Bite

Doaba Dhaba, a cloud kitchen concept in India, has revolutionized the food delivery industry with its unique and sustainable packaging. Inspired by traditional Indian practices, the brand's identity and packaging reflect its values of authenticity and sustainability.

The main dishes at Doaba Dhaba are packed in handcrafted clay pots, known as Handis, made by local artisans. These clay pots not only add a rustic and organic feel to the brand but also serve as a sustainable alternative to traditional plastic containers. The use of clay pots not only enhances the dining experience but also ensures that the food remains fresh and flavorful.

In addition to the clay pots, the rotis and naans (flatbreads) are packed in banana leaves, held together by jute threads. This traditional method of packaging not only adds a unique touch to the dining experience but also eliminates the need for single-use plastic wraps. The banana leaves are biodegradable and completely safe for serving food, making them an eco-friendly choice.

To further minimize its environmental impact, Doaba Dhaba uses bags made of recycled paper for the final packaging. These bags are not only sturdy and reliable but also contribute to reducing waste and promoting sustainability. The brand is committed to reducing its carbon footprint and has even incorporated electric vehicles for food delivery.

The design and realization of Doaba Dhaba's sustainable food packaging involve a combination of handcrafted clay pots, banana leaves, and recycled paper. The clay pots come in various sizes, including 2000ml, 1000ml, 500ml, and 250ml, each carefully designed to accommodate different dishes. The banana leaf packaging is flexible and depends on the number and thickness of the bread.

During the design process, the team faced two major challenges. The first was reducing the production cost of the clay pots, which were handcrafted. This was resolved by connecting with the right vendor and increasing the production quantity. The second challenge was ensuring that the pots remained intact during transit. To overcome this, the delivery boys were trained, and thicker foam padding was included in their delivery bags.

Doaba Dhaba's sustainable food packaging has garnered recognition and accolades. The design was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Sustainable Products, Projects, and Green Design category in 2022. This award recognizes designs that exhibit strong technical and creative skills while contributing to quality of life improvements and making the world a better place.
